The holidays of December are filled with festivities, parties, and celebrations marking all manner of events, from religious, traditional, and cultural to corporate events. St. Nicholas Day:

Reason for Celebration:

St. Nicholas sold everything he owned, including money, to the poor people in his neighbourhood. He dedicated his entire life to helping and caring for sick and suffering people. Many European countries begin celebrating St. Nicholas Day on the eve of December 5th by exchanging candy, chocolate notes, modest gifts, and puzzles. 

Children leave carrots and hay in their shoes in the hopes that St. Nicholas will swap them for modest gifts and treats. This day is widely observed in many tiny Russian and Greek towns and villages.

This festival lasts for eight days, beginning on the evening of November 28th, 2022, and ending on the 6th of December 2022. Hanukkah is also known as Chanukah, Chanukkah, Feast of Dedication, Celebration of Lights, or Feast of the Maccabees, as well as a Jewish festival. 

The lighting of a Hanukkah menorah is the most prevalent Hanukkah custom. These menorahs can be found in the homes of many Jewish households. Menorahs are lit with a major candle first, and that candle is then usedto light an additional candle for each night, with Judaic blessings chanted before and during the procedure.

St. Lucia Day

St. Lucia, also known as the Festival of Light, is predominantly celebrated in Sweden, Norway, and the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. This day, which falls on December 13th, honours St. Lucia (St. Lucy), an early Christian martyr. After being accused of surreptitiously delivering food to Christians hiding in the mazes of underground catacombs beneath Rome, she was killed.

Young girls dressed in traditional costume, including wreaths on their hair and candles, celebrate this event. This winter festivity symbolises brightness in the midst of long, dark Nordic winters.

The beginning of the shortest day to the north of the equator and the beginning of the longest day to the south of the equator are marked by the December solstice. December 20th, 21st, 22nd, or 23rd are all possible dates for the December Solstice; however, December 20th and 23rd solstices are uncommon.

On this day, people light bonfires and candles to entice the sun back. Some people are anticipating the cooler weather, snow, skiing and ice skating, warming up in front of the fire, and the festive atmosphere. You’ll notice a muted type of quietness while strolling in the woods, which is soothing.

Many countries, such as Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States, make Christmas Day a national holiday, like they do on December 25.

Boxing Day began as a day for providing gifts and aid to those in need in the United Kingdom during the Middle Ages. In many Commonwealth countries and places that were once part of the British Empire, Boxing Day is now celebrated on December 26. Though the exact roots of the word are unknown, it is often assumed that Boxing Day was when the lower classes and those in need of aid might expect to receive their own Christmas box. 

The original meaning and purpose of Boxing Day, like many other holidays, have evolved. Boxing Day is a popular shopping holiday in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Boxing Day, like Black Friday in the United States or Singles’ Day in China, is a day when shops offer substantial discounts to entice shoppers flush with holiday cash.

Reason for Celebration: 

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration of African-American culture and tradition that begins on December 26th and ends on January 1st, 2023. This event is celebrated by millions of individuals in the United States and around the world, who dress up in traditional African attire. 

During the day, families celebrate St. Lucia’s Day by dressing their eldest daughter in white and providing coffee and baked goodies, such as saffron bread (lussekatter) and ginger biscuits, to other family members and visitors.

Kwanzaa is a spiritual celebration observed from December 26th to January 1st. African Americans dress up in festive attire, decorate their homes with fruits and vegetables, and light a kinara on these holidays (candle holder).

Omisaka Festival, commonly known as Japanese New Year, is observed on December 31, 2022, in Japanese culture. It is observed by people purifying their houses and removing last year’s clutter by cleaning from top to bottom.
